GR Player Bruce Dougall's New CD!

For years I had wanted to do a trumpet solo CD with tunes
that were well known by the general public. I was inspired by some recordings
that Doc Severinsen did in the 70’s. After working for years in bands of all
kinds and doing studio work for various artists and groups, I wanted to do a CD
project of my own and try to copy some of that compelling trumpet sound that Doc
Severinsen and Bobby Herriott had mentored for me. My good friend Larry Dalton,
(www.LarryDalton.com) , did a stellar job in arranging the music and
getting the Nashville pro’s together to lay down all 10 tracks. He also arranged
the music for the well-known Nashville String Machine, providing the project an
added dimension of class with real strings as only real strings can do. We added
the horns here in Vancouver BC (full big band) and later I added my solo trumpet
and flugel lines.
I play on a Destino trumpet I bought from Doc and on a Scodwell Flugelhorn I
bought from Tony Scodwell in Vegas, playing both horns on GR Mouthpieces
of course. On my trumpet I play on a 62Z* for all the lead work and solo
lines. One would think that 2 mouth pieces would be in order but not with the GR
mouth piece. My 62Z* works great on burning lead lines and mellow mid/low range
too. How? I have no idea, it just works.
The project was mixed and mastered by Phil Edwards in Fantasy Studio’s in
Berkeley California. Phil has worked for just about everyone there is including
Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass, so the project was mixed by the best in the
business in my opinion. The CD is all instrumental and is a blend of Gospel,
easy listening, big band swing, jazz, with some cameo musical background things
peppered in there on occasion, just for fun. Joining me on this project was Paul
Baron on trumpet and Chad Makela on Bari. (Chad tours with Doc Severinsen).
Musicians will love the mixing job. If you crank it up loud, you will think you
are in the middle of the band. You will love it.
Regards
Bruce Dougall

GR Player Patrick Hughes
Along with Dr. Tunnell's instruction, the new GR mouthpiece, and practice, practice, practice, I have made tremendous strides this semester in all aspects of my playing. I recently did an acapella performance of My Old Kentucky Home on the floor of the State House and State Senate and received much praise from my state legislator's and their constituents who were present. According to my dad who was present, many grown men and women were moved to tears. I also earned an 'A' (what a relief) on my college jury.
Patrick has been invited to be a special guest at the 2007 ESPY Awards http://espn.go.com/espy2007/# show at the Kodak Theatre http://www.kodaktheatre.com/profile.htm in Hollywood, California. This is another huge honor for Patrick and it should be a very exciting night for him and we encourage everyone to tune in on Sunday, July 15th, at 9 p.m. ET when the show airs on ESPN. As you may remember, the piece ESPN did about Patrick which aired many times during the past college football season was nominated for an Emmy Award.
